This is the personal web site of Philip Sustachek.
Statement and Personal History:
I was born in Wisconsin in 1973.
I started to become interested in art and drawing in my elementary school days when I saw my first anime on TV after moving to California. After this I would frequently visit Japanese bookstores and seriously studied all Japanese art, language, and culture, at this early age. In high school, when I moved to Virginia this developed into very serious thoughts about an art career and Japanese study. During this time I met many friends and became interested in miniature gaming. I started painting, sculpting, and selling miniatures that go with these games. Also during this time I began working at Visual Systems, which was a Washington D.C.area art store. After high school I attended Washington University's School of Architecture in St.Louis, the Art Institute of Southern California in Laguna Beach, and several community colleges in Virginia and California.
In 1994-1995 I decided to pursue my other love, of aircraft, and started studying to become a pilot and aircraft mechanic. In 1995 I traveled to Oslo, Norway to work for SAS for 6 months on an aircraft refit contract. There, and in a subsequent trip I took through Europe, I visited dozens of museums and historical sites especially in Italy and Greece where I fell seriously in love with the idea of stone sculpture as an artistic pursuit.
During this time I began to use the screen name of Chimera in the burgeoning internet, which was based upon my love for the works of the artist Amano, who had done a series by that name. I also read a novel called "The Chimera" which had many net references, not to mention my love of the historical mythology of Greece, which is why I've called my site Chimera-Art. It's also intended to be representative of my many loves for different forms of art.
When I returned to America, I went back to school for a degree in multimedia design at Orange Coast College, and began working at Radio Shack. Later, I got a job as a jewelry production assistant. In 1997 I became part of the studio and sculpture school called "Sculpture Spaces" in Huntington Beach, CA. for two years under Jacqueline Besley, where I learned to carve stone.
I moved back to Virginia in 2000, after the closure of that studio and am now working on my own. My.. stone sculpture has currently been put on delay as I'm trying to launch this web site, figure sales, and garage kit production which is more easily sent through mail, and more portable. I'm also trying to return to my high school ideal of producing at least one new sketch and design a day.
My current work is very influenced by anime as I believe it to be a very pure style and it's what first influenced me to become an artist.

I'm open to doing gk and model build commissions, including on my own sculpts, starting at $100 for simple 1/8th kits and up as the scale and complexity increases.
