Chobits is one of my favorite anime series ever. The beauty, and the way people interact with PC's is really amazing, and a real positive spin on the near future, and interaction with technology, where it seems most places like to go dark.
When I first saw this kit on the sculptors site thanks to a post on e2046 I was blown away. It was the most incredible detailed figure I've seen in a long time. During my wait to buy it I reasearched it and found the picture book it was from. Chobits "for your eyes only", and it was a black and white picture, with the title Balance, and it had her balancing on this little swirl.
It got me to thinking about the story and how Elda and Freya shared the same body, and I thought, wouldn't it be cool if it was talking about more than just the way she was standing. So I watched the last episode over and over again and there's this point in the episode where Elda and Freya are talking to each other with these simple drawings that are really her programing and avatars for them merging.
So that's what I decided to make this, kind of a "hero" dress for a merged Freya/Elda Chii. At the moment they merge she also has a normal iris for the only time in the series, so she has normal eyes as well.
Due to workshop problems and miscomunicated emails it took about 2-3 months for me to recieve the kit. I didn't get this kit until Aurgust 5th which was 4 days until the contest I hoped to enter it in deadline. I completed the figure in about 3 days that I had just before the contest. I barely made the submission deadline, submitting a day before the deadline.
The legs and much of the panties are resculpts of mine, the originals are much too short(I added about an inch) and the panties/abdomen shape were much too childlike for my tastes. This is the most doweled kit I've ever done, almost every piece needed a dowl to support everything, probably around 10 dowels. The farthingale/hoop skirt was a really difficult build, it was incredibly difficult to cut out and if there were any breaks it was near impossible to hide them in the short time I had. One of the breaks unfortunately occured as you can see in the photos just before I shot it and I did my best to patch it. I think I may rebuild a new hoop skirt from some other material in the future, I may do an original character of my with a hoop skirt, so this was a great learning experiance.
