I created this piece in my spare time from a stone that was given to me at the close of Sculpture Spaces. I had been staring at the raw rock for a long time. It is a really beautiful silver/greyish like I have never seen before. It has a super tight grain and was almost like working porcelain except a little softer. Unfortunately it also scars fairly easily. It took a long time to polish.
I created a maquette for this piece as it's dimensions didn't allow much play. This was to date the smallest stone sculpture I have made. It's based on a gryphon, a half lion, half eagle of greek myth.
