This was my first stone sculpture, made of pink alabaster in mid 97 over about 15 days. The raw piece was acquired from a previous artist who had punched the hole through the center.
It was inspired by the sculptures of Gustav Vigeland, and Vigeland Park which was right down the street from where I lived in Oslo, Norway. The centerpiece of the park is a massive 60 foot stone monolith which represents the harmony of people and the cycle of life. I selected the design for this piece because it was very modular, if something went wrong it could always be adjusted. No maquette or design work was done before carving.
